FLASHRITE WEATHER SEAL QUESTIONS
Q: How far apart should each fixing be from the next?
A: Each installation can be different and as a guide, fixings should be between 20 – 50mm apart. They should not be more than 50mm apart.
Q: What type of screws should be used with FlashRite Weather Seal Metal Roof Flashings?
A: Roof Extenda recommends Class 4 hex head self-drilling screws minimum of 16mm long with a rubber washer.
Q: Should I use silicone sealant where the FlashRite seals around the bracket/anchor?
A: No, silicone sealant should not be used where the FlashRite seals around the bracket/anchor. This can cause water leaks as the silicone can crack over time and allow water ingress. We recommend a neutral cure sealant.
Q: I collect drinking water from my roof?
A: The FlashRite Weather Seal is suitable for drinking water catchments.
Q: Can FlashRite Weather Seals be painted?
A: Yes, after installation. We recommend using 100% acrylic paint.
Q: How should I trim the rubber boot of the FlashRite Weather Seal to the correct bracket/anchor size?
A: We recommend a sharp pair of scissors to cut the rubber boot for the correct bracket/anchor size. Ensure there are no accidental nicks in the polymer, as this will continue to split/tear over time.
Tip: Ensure the blades are sharp with no contamination e.g. glue or any accumulated dirt.
Q: How do I know where to cut the FlashRite to match the bracket/anchor size?
A: The FlashRite Weather Seals have measurements on their flashings to help guide the installer for the correct bracket/anchor outside diameter. If measurements are not available, use the rule of subtracting 18% off the outside diameter of the bracket/anchor.
Example, if the bracket/anchor is 100mm in outside diameter, subtract 18% of 100mm, this will provide the recommended pipe flashing I.D. of 82mm for a 100mm outside diameter bracket/anchor. This will provide a good interference fit between the bracket/anchor flashing and bracket/anchor.
Q: Is the FlashRite Weather Seal UV resistant?
A: Yes. The polymers are formulated to be Ozone and UV resistant.
Q: What is the difference between EPDM and Silicone FlashRite Weather Seals?
A: EPDM can withstand temperatures between -40 C° to +115 C°.
Silicone can withstand temperatures between -60 C° to +200 C°
Q: Does the Flashrite work on tiled roofs?
A: No. The correct weather seal for a tiled roof is the Flexatile or Aqua Tile. Roof Extenda does not recommend using a FlashRite Weather Seal on a tiled roof.
Q: What is the Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) of the weather seals?
A: The black FlashRite, Flexatiles and Aqua Tiles are BAL 12.5, the silicone red FlashRite is BAL 29.
Q: I live in an area with a high risk of bush fires, what Roof Extenda Weather Seal is best for me?
A: Our red silicone weather seal options are best for high risk areas.
For a tin roof, the Silicone Red FlashRite Weather Seal is BAL 29.
For a tiled roof, the Aqua Tile is available with a Silicone Red Boot – special order only.

COMPUTATION QUESTIONS
Q: What is the computation service?
A: The computation service provides calculations for the brackets to your specific build, often Building Surveyors and Council ask for these otherwise its just a useful service to confirm the
brackets can work in your set conditions
Q: How much is the computation service?
A: The computation service is completely free!
Q: How long does the computation service take to complete?
A: Each job can vary and time of year is especially important, our goal will be within the 24h, we will let you know if it is to exceed that.
Q: I need a Form 15, Reg 126, Certificate of Compliance.
A: These documents are not something we can provide in house, this is something an engineer we work with can complete for a fee. A computation form will still need to be completed in advance.
Q: I don’t know some of the information your computation form is asking me for
A: The calculator we use in house requires all the information. Contact us if you need to discuss some aspects of the form.
Q: Can I send you plans?
A: You can! Please know, we are not engineers ourselves, we use the plans to identify the pergola layout and bracket distribution, we will not accept plans as a substitute of the computation form.
Q: What is the maximum beam length supported by 1 bracket?
A: This is the distance a single bracket is carrying on its own, this is not the same as spacing but can be calculated by spacing.
Q: My pergola beam timber material isn’t listed?
A: What is listed is what’s in the calculator, opt for another timber type that shares the same timber joint group.
Q: I am using Aluminium for my pergola beam
A: We cannot help with Aluminium connections currently, we are working on solutions, check back soon!
Q: My pergola isn’t a standard design
A: Submit the computation form and send a follow up email to info@roofextenda.com.au with some plans explaining your situation
Q: My top plate is less than 90mm
A: The brackets are 95mm wide, you should discuss options to widen and strengthen your top plate for a suitable installation.
Q: My calculations have the wrong information
A: Calculations reflect what is specified on your computation request, if something needs to be adjusted send an email to info@roofextenda.com.au or submit a new computation request.
Q: I have since changed my pergola design and/or values I provided on my computation request, are my calculations still valid?
A: No, If anything is changed from your original request and completed calculations the advice is to resubmit a new form with the new information
Q: Can I use my calculations on another job?
A: A new computation should be completed per job.
Q: Can I get a copy of the capacity tables
A: No, the computation service is the route you should take for engineering information; it will check the loads, such as Lateral and uplift.
Q: How soon should I do this computation request?
A: As soon as you want! These calculations don’t have an expiration date and even if you didn’t plan to use our brackets originally it’s worth having these ready as a back up!
Q: Can I get a calculation for 1 bracket?
A: The calculator only allows 2 brackets minimum to complete a calculation, email us your design and intentions and we will look into this further.
Q: Can the brackets be installed on lintels?
A: need to discuss with a structural engineer how you can strengthen them.
